I am not the guy who “gets lathered up in other sites forums” about which geocache listing service is the best however; after a recent comment on a post about being a PR arm for the frog, I would like to give an example of why I like Geocaching.Com.
Example:
If you take two geocachers, one who caches with Groundspeak and the other with any other listing service and place them anywhere in the world (with Satellite and phone reception) and told them to find a geocache, here is what would happen.
The Geocaching.Com Cacher
The Groundspeak cacher armed with Android/iPhone and a GPS would start their Geocaching.Com mobile App and within a few seconds be hunting for a cache. They would have the following features/services at their fingertips.
- Navigation to the cache via
- Map
- Compass
- Directions
- Description of the cache
- 10 Most recent logs
- Hint
- Attributes
- Inventory
- Photos uploaded by cachers who have found the cache
- Option to view the cache page on Geocaching.Com
- Option to view on an external Map
- Bing
- Yahoo
- After the cache is found/not found the log can be posted from the cache location.
- Then a quick press of the screen sends the player off on the next adventure.
The Cacher from any other listing service.
- Wish they had access to a computer to download some gpx files
- If they could access their favorite listing service via a mobile app, they could copy the coordinates to a nearby cache to their GPS?
- Else they could tag along with the Geocaching.Com player and have a fun day of Geocaching.
If your listing service is free, maybe you are getting what you are paying for… not much…
This is how I like to cache and from my perspective. This post isn’t meant to determine the best Geocache listing service and challenges those who try to rate such services without including ALL services and features available to the geocaching community.

Edited to add: The Geocaching.Com cacher left the GPS as a REAL nice trade item… A cacher on one of the Old School cache listing sites may be able to use it after they download some unlimited gpx files…
