I see OpenCaching as a fair second place alternative compared to Geocaching.Com. I don’t see Opencaching.Com as a serious threat to Geocaching.Com. It looks like an interesting battle for second place shaping up, and that would be the .Com .Us arms race. Either way it will be an OpenCaching site in second. Yawn…
A rose by any other name is still… OpenCaching. There is an identity crisis on the .us side in regards to the word “real”. Newsflash…. both sites appear to be real, both sites promote OpenCaching (Keeping Caching Free), and one is associated with the OpenCaching Network. Maybe its just me, but being associated with the Opencaching Network doesn’t make you any more real… just part of a network. The real argument is already getting old, and is the very thing that will drive casual players away from their site. I predict the two OpenCaching sites will be each others undoing. The .Us players struggling to be recognized as “Real”, and the .Com site hung with the rhetoric from the .Us players.
Happy Trails,
Ron – Keeping it “Real”
